13 people die in rain-related incidents across Pakistan

KARACHI: Present wet spell and extreme weather conditions across the country left at least 13 people dead in various parts of the country, including Punjab, Balochistan and Sindh, ARY News reported on Thursday.

At least six people died in Multan, Rojhan and Dera Ghazi Khan after rooftops of houses collapsed in rainstorm.

Deputy Commissioner Lasbela had said that two dead bodies found in Hub while four others swept away by the floodwater are still missing in the district.

Present wet spell claimed 13 lives including four children, while 11 others were reported injured in various rain-related incidents.

The rooftop of a house collapsed at Budhla road in Multan leaving four people dead in the incident including three children, local rescue officials said. A girl was also injured in the incident.

Another incident of roof collapse reported at Jhok Utra in Dera Ghazi Khan leaving an 11-year boy dead and his father injured, according to the local emergency officials.

A house collapsed in Rojhan leaving a man and his wife dead, rescue officials said. Two people were injured under the debris of the house.

Another couple died in another incident of roof collapse in a village near Farooqabad in Sheikhupura.

A man died in the outskirts of Makhdoompur due to collapse of rooftop of a house. Three persons were injured in the incident and were transferred to District Headquarters Hospital.

Moreover, a youth killed and four persons were injured in traffic accidents during rainfall in Okara.

More Rain, Snowfall

Heavy rainfall was reported at Sukkur, Faisalabad, Kamalia, Gujrat, Narowal, Multan, Vehari, Makran region and Lasbela districts of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

The Met Office forecasts more rainfall today in Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The wet spell will continue during the week till Friday.

Moreover, snowfall has been reported at Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Galliat, Swat, Naran and Chitral.

The communication links of Galliat and Thandiani disrupted with Abbottabad after heavy snowfall.

According to the met office a westerly wave is effecting central and upper parts of Pakistan and it will likely to persist in upper parts till today.

Widespread rain with thunderstorm is expected today in Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while at scattered places in Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, the weather forecast said.
