LAHORE: Punjab Police and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday informed Lahore High Court (LHC) bench that former cop and encounter specialist Abid Boxer was not in their custody.

The high court was hearing a petition filed by Boxer’s father-in-law, seeking formal arrest procedures for the former inspector.

The petitioner has adopted a stance that the authorities may bypass arrest regulations and kill the suspect in an extrajudicial execution in custody.

During the court proceedings today, the police and FIA submitted written statements and denied knowing the whereabouts of the infamous cop.

Notorious Boxer was arrested by Interpol from Dubai Airport earlier this month. He was infamous for the extrajudicial killings of suspected criminals and was on the run for last 11 years.

The petitioner pleaded with Justice Anwarul Haq to give injunctions ensuring security and protection to Abid Boxer.

Boxer’s father-in-law feared that the former cop might be killed in an extrajudicial execution.

He insisted that Boxer has been handed over to Pakistani authorities after his arrest by Interpol at Dubai Airport.

Justice Haq then summoned legal counsels of the respondents to present their arguments in the case in the next hearing on March 8 and adjourned the hearing.

Abid Boxer’s confessions

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan announced to approach the courts to uncover the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s support to former police inspector Abid Boxer in numerous extrajudicial killings.

The PTI chairman alleged that the former cop killed people in staged encounters on directions of the Punjab Chief Minister.

The PTI chief said all the confessional statements by Boxer are on record, claiming that he never killed anyone without consent of Shahbaz Sharif.

Khan said the fugitive had left the country after learning that Punjab Chief Minister was planning to kill him. “Is there a single extrajudicial killing incident took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa [in recent year],” the PTI chairman asked.
