RAWALPINDI: Unearthing theft of jail’s grocery items, a senior official of Central Jail Adiala has approached the city police complaining that edible items of the prison are being sold in a nearby market.

Javaid Iqbal, who is a senior clerk in the Jail, wrote in his complaint that he spotted a van loaded with rice, ghee and other items at Gate No.5 of Adiala jail couple of days ago at night leaving out of the jail premises.

He said his statement could be corroborated through CCTV cameras installed at the specified gate of the jail.

According to reports, Inspector General Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig ordered an inquiry and deputed the DIG Rawalpindi to report within three days.

After raising an objection over grocery theft, the official claimed that he was accosted by individuals in a white car on his way home, adding that he evaded them. “Two hours later, the owner of the go-down and two others came to my home and tried to arrest me,” he said.

Further explaining the ordeal, he said that when he saw the go-down owner, he left his home and spent the night in an under-construction house on the jail premises.

In his complaint, he said he was being victimised for exposing the theft of grocery items brought for prisoners.

In a video on the social media, the clerk said he present himself for investigation saying if any wrongdoing proved against him he would resign straightaway and face any punishment awarded to him.

Note: The video posted above is being shared on the social media platforms identifying the man in the footage as Adiala Jail clerk.
