Administration imposes Section 144 in Peshawar until 10th Muharram

PESHAWAR: The District Administration imposed section 144 till 10th of Muharram in the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to ensure peace and security in the holy month.

The notification issued by the district administration read that pillion riding, wall chalking, distribution of objectionable material, pasting posters on walls especially on mosques and Imambargahs would be banned for 10 days.

The letter further detailed that printing and circulation of objectionable material, display and carrying of weapons, use of fake number plates in vehicles, applied for numbers, use of loudspeakers for other then Azan and Jumma sermons, entry of Afghan refugees into Peshawar and cantonment areas, sale and use of firecrackers and dealing in acid, business of renting car and motorbikes, sale of petroleum products in shops and open areas, use of tinted glassed in vehicles, standing on rooftop of buildings and houses in surroundings of processions’ routes and Imambargahas, staying of strangers in hotels and Inns and houses which fall on the routes of processions and Imambargahs premises would be banned in the entire city under section 144 during the period.

Warning the violators, the letter stipulated that the order will proceed against 188 PPC. The order shall come into force hence with and would remain in effect till 10th of Muharram.

Karachi Meeting on Muharram Security

On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired a high-level meeting on September 10 in Karachi to review security arrangements for Muharram.

He said the ulema of different school of thoughts had played a very constructive role in maintaining sectarian harmony among the people of the province, therefore there was no chance of any untoward incident during Muharram-ul-Harram.

However, he said, his government was taking strict security measures during Muharram and implementing code of conduct to ensure peace and harmony.
