ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Interior Shehryar Afridi on Thursday met the representatives of fruit and vegetable market association in Islamabad and directed them to keep rates of essential items minimal, ARY News reported.
During a meeting, Afridi said he would pay surprise visits to the market and shops, adding strict action will be taken if anyone was found overcharging and neglecting the government price list.
He claimed that the government would ensure implementation of uniformed rates of all staple commodities. He said profiteering will not be tolerated at any cost.
“Today, the servants of the people are in the government and they will make sure people do not suffer.”

The minister also directed commissioner Islamabad and assistant commissioners to take action against profiteers.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the provinces and the interior ministry to devise an effective price control mechanism and ensure availability of essential items of daily use during the holy month Ramazan.
According to a letter written by the prime minister, all the provinces were directed to form price control committees at union council and town level to stop profiteering in the holy month.
The prime minister directed to ensure uninterrupted gas and power supply during Iftar and Sehri and asked the provinces to take foolproof security measures to avoid any untoward incident in Ramazan.
