AJK president urges Turkey to help resolve Kashmir dispute

ISLAMABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan here on Thursday urged Turkey to mediate for the resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

In an interview to a Turkish television channel, Masood Khan thanked Turkey for its strong, consistent and steadfast support to the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said ,”Turkey has always extended its invaluable diplomatic support to the Kashmiris at all the international forums especially in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.”

The president said that  people of Azad Kashmir were really indebted to Turkey for its generous support to AJK for reconstruction after 2005 earthquake.

He invited Turkish entrepreneurs and business persons to come to Azad Kashmir and invest in education, health, tourism and industry to help the state turn into an engine of growth for economic development.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on March 3 had said Turkey had ready to do its part to de-escalate tension between Pakistan and India.

Addressing a campaign rally in Trabzon, he had hailed Pakistan’s move in handing over an Indian pilot downed in the recent tension, adding that he looked forward to seeing similar steps from India.

Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to Russia Venkatesh Varma had said India would not accept any offer of mediation.
