Singer-cum-actor Ali Zafar on Tuesday claimed that fake social media accounts, which were involved in a defamatory campaign against him, are “now shutting down after our application to the FIA.”

The artist tweeted: “As i said, the smear campaign against me was running through fake accounts,” which are now shutting down after the actor lodged complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency under the cyber crime law.

“Our resolve to set a precedent that no one can do this ever to an innocent person is stronger than ever now,” Zafar added along with screenshots of social media pages, created to support sexual assault accuser Meesha Shafi.

A day earlier, Ali Zafar said that a coordinated campaign was running through fake accounts on social media while he was fighting court battle against fellow celebrity Meesha Shafi’s sexual harassment allegations.

“This (social media campaign) started when my manager received a threat on Instagram just after the first teaser of my movie (Teefa In Trouble) was released and the person said ‘just wait and watch what we do with Ali Zafar before the movie’s release’ then a number of fake accounts were created for a defamation campaign against me,” Ali Zafar said while speaking during ARY News’ morning show ‘Bakhabar Savera’ yesterday.

He announced that he has approached FIA against those social media accounts who are a part of defamation campaign against him and will expose them all.

It is pertinent to note here that in April 2018, singer Meesha Shafi, in a post shared on micro-blogging site Twitter, claimed that she had been subjected to sexual harassment “of a physical nature” by Ali Zafar on multiple occasions.

Ali Zafar has since been fighting an intense court battle while a social media campaign urging everyone to boycott him over these allegations has also been running on social media.
