India hands over body of Pakistani fisherman

KARACHI: The body of a Pakistani fisherman who died inside an Indian jail after being inflicted with torture was handed over to Pakistani officials at the Wagah Border by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) early Saturday.

The mortal remains of Muhammad Sohail will be brought to Karachi where he will be laid to rest.

The Pakistani national had died on April 26 in an Indian jail, according to a spokesperson for Fishermen’s Co-operative Society.

The deceased, a resident of Karachi’s Muhammadi Colony, was taken into custody by Indian forces on October 2, 2016 after accidentally entering Indian waters.

Sohail is the fourth Pakistani to die in Indian jail within a period of just one month.

Earlier in April, 80-year-old Noorul Amin had lost his life after being inflicted severe torture in an Indian jail. Amin was kidnapped by Indian forces from Pakistan’s maritime boundaries.

In Feb,  a Pakistani inmate named as Shakoorul Allah was subjected to severe tortured in an attack in the prison of Rajasthan’s capital city of Jaipur by other inmates, which led to his death on the spot.
