Case filed at CTD police station in Gulistan-e-Johar blast incident

KARACHI: A case has been lodged at a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in the incident of the blast which took place last night in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi, ARY News reported on Sunday.

The FIR was registered under sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act, attempted murder and explosive material.

The petitioner in the case is Sub Inspector Javed Akhtar. It has been reported that a citizen informed police on 15 helpline about the incident at 12:10 pm. Plastic pieces and explosive material have been recovered from the site. Forensic team said it was an improvised explosive device weighing 300 gram.

Inspector General Sindh Police said the blast could be result of any conflict within the party, however the incident was being investigated from every angle. He said a number of suspects were arrested for interrogation.

At least eight people were injured in the blast on Saturday night.

According to ARY News correspondent Salman Lodhi, the blast took place near Perfume Chowk, where Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) had organised Mehfil-e-Milad.

MQM-P leader Faisal Sabzwari claimed that MQM-P Convener Khalid Maqbool and Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan narrowly escaped the blast. He said several of his party workers were injured.
