ISLAMABAD: Senate’s special body was informed that as many as 300 cases of child abuse and others were registered in Islamabad, during last five years, ARY News reported on Monday.
The DIG operations Islamabad, apprising the senate’s special body here today, said that due to unavailability of the lock-ups for the children, the number of child abuse cases can rise.
“At least 300 cases of child abuse were registered, while 260 cases remained unregistered in last five years,” the DIG operations said in his briefing.
Moving further, he said the two missing girls, who disappeared in 2016, could not be traced; while more than 1,400 children were recovered, who were begging in the federal capital.
The DIG operations in his briefing to the lawmakers highlighted the lack of the coordination between the institutions about exchange of information about missing children.
On the occasion, Secretary Ministry of Human Rights urged the need of building the Missing Children Bureau.
Earlier in the day, The Interior Senate Standing Committee had recommended publicly hanging the rapist of a three-year-old girl Faryal in Abbottabad.
Presiding over the meeting, Chairman Senator Rehman Malik said the committee expressed their proposal of public hanging to the incumbent government and was awaiting a response in that regard.
State Minister for Interior, Shehryar Afridi, also appeared before the committee. He said the culprit should be awarded an exemplary punishment in the form of public hanging.
