Karachi’s Civil Hospital to be renamed after Dr Ruth Pfau: CM Sindh

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Saturday announced to rename the Civil Hospital Karachi in recognition of the humanitarian Dr Ruth Pfau.

The chief minister after attending state funeral of Dr Ruth Pfau at Christian Cemetery directed Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon to issue a notification to name Civil Hospital as Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

“She had dedicated her entire life fighting against leprosy in the country, particularly in Sindh and founded a dedicated hospital in the city,” said CM Sindh

He further said that it has become our responsibility to name one of the largest hospitals, Civil hospital Karachi, in her name.

CM Sindh directed the chief secretary to issue a notification for the purpose and directed health department to replace the name board of the hospital and change the letter heads ans seals accordingly.

Earlier, CM Sindh attended final funeral rites of Dr Ruth Pfau at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and her state funeral at Christian Cemetery and laid wreath on her grave. A gun-salute was offered by contingents of all three Armed Forces of Pakistan present on the occasion.

Dr Ruth Pfau who devoted over fifty years of life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan passed away on August 10 at the age of 88.

She was accorded a stae funneral attended by various dignitaries including President Mamnoon Hussain, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Aman Sohail, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Zakaullah, Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair and Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and officials from the German Consulate in Karachi.
