Suo moto taken against finance ministry for opening account to collect dams’ funds

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar took a suo moto notice against the Ministry of Finance for opening up a bank account to receive donation money sent by the public for the construction of dams.

The top judge remarked that the State Bank of Pakistan is giving an impression that the government set up the bank accounts for donations.“These funds are arranged by the Supreme Court,” Justice Nisar clarified.

However, the bench of Supreme Court expressed satisfaction over the response of public for sending donations for the constructions of dams.

The Secretary Finance is summoned by the court to appear in personal capacity tomorrow. People are sending messages that they cannot trust the government and will not like to transfer their funds into the accounts of Finance Ministry, the Chief Justice mentioned.

On July 6, the Ministry of Finance opened an account under the title of “DIAMER-BHASHA AND MOHMAND DAM FUND –2018” to collect funds for the same.

Director General of Inter Service Public Relations Major General Asif Ghafoor also tweeted that Pakistan Armed Forces will contribute for the national cause and donate a part of their salaries for the construction of dams.
