LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar on Friday decided to ensure strict monitoring of markets during Ramazan in an attempt to curb profiteering, ARY News reported.

Chairing a high-level meeting today, CM Buzdar ordered provincial ministers, advisers and special assistants to fix duties of their sub-ordinates with a direction to ensure proper surveillance of markets.

He also directed other relevant departments to keep a check on prices of basic commodities during the holy month.

The chief minister ordered officials to take strict action against profiteers and hoarders.

Buzdar told the ministers that time for meetings was not over. “We have to provide genuine relief to the masses and certain steps are needed to be taken in this regard,” he added.

He said relevant departments must decide a course of action against those involved in creating an artificial inflation. He told ministers not to waste time in meetings, and rather provide relief to the people.

He said elements who were involved in fleecing masses should now land in jail. The chief minister also ordered formation of a control room during the month of Ramazan to ensure earliest resolution of complaints.

Last week, the provincial government of Punjab had announced to set up 307 fair price shops in Punjab to provide daily use items to masses at control rates during the holy month of Ramzan.

Provincial Agriculture Minister Malik Nauman Ahmad Langrial said that provision of daily use items at control rate will be ensured in these shops at subsidized rates.
