KARACHI: CNG association to protest on Wednesday (tomorrow) as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced to halt gas supply to CNG stations across Sindh for indefinite period of time, ARY News reported.

As per details, the SSGC spokesperson in a statement today said, supply to CNG stations will be discontinued for an indefinite period of time due to technical faults in the field, adding gas supply to also remain suspended to the industrial units run by the captive power plants in Karachi for three months.

“Steps are underway to restore gas supply for commercial and domestic consumers with full pressure,” the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, CNG associations have announced to protest outside the SSGC office against the repeated supply halt. “The repeated gas supply disruption has badly affected our business,” said leaders of CNG associations.

Reacting over SSGC’s decision of halting gas supply to Karachi’s industrial units, business community leader, Siraj Qasim Teli said, despite Prime Minister Imran Khan’s assurances of undisrupted gas supply, it has been halted for three months, according to the notification issued by SSGC.

He urged prime minister to take notice of the matter and ensure supply of gas to the industrial units in the metropolis.

As the winter begins, gas crises have intensified in several parts of the metropolis, causing problems for the domestic consumers as well as industrial units.

It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan had on December 4 promised that people would not face gas load-shedding during this winter.

“Gas is being provided to the industry continuously and subsidy will be provided on bills from October 16 till June next year,” the minister said while talking to newsmen in Lahore.

Ghulam Sarwar Khan also announced that subsidy would also be provided to fertiliser industry till March next year.
