Judicial commission to be formed on the basis of 1956 Inquiry Act

In order to probe the disclosures contained in the Panama papers, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced during his address to the nation that he would write a letter to the Chief Justice to form a judicial commission.

ARY News obtained the terms of reference of the letter which states that the commission will be formed on the basis of the 1956 Inquiry Act. The commission would have the right to summon any person and call for any document or record.

Nawaz Sharif has been under pressure to resign after tax records from a Panamanian firm revealed his three children Maryam, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz own offshore companies abroad. PTI chairman Imran Khan and PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari have called for the PM to step down.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan will depart for a seven-day trip to Turkey tomorrow.
