ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar, who is retiring on October 25, paid farewell call on Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Prime Minister Office on Monday.

The Prime Minister appreciated the meritorious services of Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar for the country during his military career especially as DG ISI, PM Office said in a statement.

PM Khan also expressed his best wishes for his post retirement life. Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar thanked the Prime Minister for his expression and best wishes.

It is pertinent to mention here that Lieutenant General Asim Munir has been appointed the new Director General of Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, Inter-Services Intelligence.

PM Khan was due to appoint the new head of the ISI after the incumbent chief of the country’s spy agency, Lt-General Naveed Mukhtar, was retiring on Oct 25.

Traditionally, the coveted slot of DG ISI, considered the most powerful after the army chief’s post, goes to a three-star general with a considerable experience of the field.

The outgoing DG ISI Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar is a graduate of the Command and Staff College Quetta. He assumed the charge of country’s premier spy agency on December 11, 2016.

He had commanded a mechanised division and served as director general of Rangers before being promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and posted as corps commander of Karachi in September 2014.
