SAO PAULO: A disc Jjockey (DJ) has died after a stage collapsed on him due to sudden storm that lashed when a dance festival was going on in a Brazilian city.
Kaleb Freitas was performing when the structure was brought down during a storm at Atmosphere Festival, Porto Alegre.
The 30-year-old, whose real name was Kalleby Frietas de Rosa, was rushed to hospital with head injures but died soon after arrival.
A spokesman for the organisers Rave Atmosphere said they would assist with the investigation, adding: ‘We’re devastated, we lost a friend and a great artist.’ Several other festival goers were also injured after the sound and light system collapsed at the electronic music festival in the state’s capital of Rio Grande do Sul.
Commissioner Andre Sperotto told local media: ‘One person has been confirmed dead, the DJ at the event, while several others were injured.’ Sperotto was unable to confirm how many wounded were taken to hospital.
Adverse weather conditions and high winds have been blamed for causing the stage to collapse. Footage released on social media shows the moment high winds brought down the rigging.
A crowd of revellers when dancing in front of the stage when it collapsed the footage captures their horrified reaction.
According to local media, firefighters stated the event had all the necessary permits but the temporary structure could not withstand the weather conditions. Social media was in shock and many paid tribute to the DJ, who was also from Porto Alegre.
