KARACHI: Additional Inspector General Karachi, Dr Amir Sheikh, has said that more than 300 drug dens have been demolished in the city during a crackdown.
In a media briefing regarding supplying of drugs to educational institutions, the Karachi police chief said the drug stations were mostly located in Dalmia, Malir Pak Colony, Jahanabad, Lyari, Sher Shah, Lasi Goth, Mehmoodabad and Shanti Nagar.
He elucidated that drugs at the Karachi drug dens were sent through Balochistan and Hub.
The AIG also revealed that use of Ice drug (crystal methamphetamine) was commonly observed among university and college students. “This drug is acquired by students between Rs 700 and Rs 2,000 per gram,” he added.

He said complaints were also received against police officers from Korangi districts involved in supplying drug to educational institutions. “We are conducting probe into it and anyone found involved will be punished as per law.”
He went on to say that Korangi SSP Ali Raza had found evidence against policemen involved in drug supplying and investigation was underway in this regard.
Briefing the media about crackdown on beggars, the city police chief said cops were also going after beggary in Karachi. “So far, at least 3,500 beggars have been taken into custody.
