As the proverb has it “prevention is better than cure”, it would now be much better as multinational pharmaceutical companies have increased the prices several times.

The hike was observed in prices of several medicines used for treating flu, fever, stomach pain, heart problems, blood thinning and during pregnancy.

Drug manufacturers increased prices up to 15 percent in Punjab; while in Sindh the rates surged by 7 percent.

Pharmaceutical companies did not even bother to seek permission of Drugs Regulatory Authority prior to raising prices.

The multinationals claimed that the rates were increased ‘legally’ and were reciprocal of the soared production cost.

Sources said that a total of six multinational pharma companies hiked prices of their medicines.
