ECP asks parliamentarians to file yearly statements of assets, liabilities by 31st

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday asked the parliamentarians to file their yearly statements of assets and liabilities by December 31.

According to an official of the ECP, this is a mandatory requirement under Section 137 of the Elections Act, 2017, under which the members of the Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies are required to submit with the election commission yearly statements of assets and liabilities including spouse and dependent children.

He said prescribed forms can also be downloaded from the ECP’s website www.ecp.gov.pk.

Earlier this month, the ECP issued details of assets of Pakistan’s political parties including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

According to the details revealed in the list of assets issued by the election commission, former ruling party the PML-N possesses the biggest assets worth 222.1 million rupees.

The PPP is the second leading party in this list with assets worth 162.2 million rupees, while the ruling party PTI is third with assets worth 116.4 million rupees.

The Jamaat-e-Islami has got 110.65 million rupees assets. The PPPP has assets worth 70.92 million rupees .
