PTI emerges as largest party as ECP issues complete poll results

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday released the complete provisional results of the 2018 general elections, ARY News reported.

According to details, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has received a majority of 115 seats of the 270 National Assembly seats but still needed 22 more to reach to the magic number of 137 and gain majority in the lower house. The formerly governing Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), which was main contender to cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan’s party, came distant second with 64 seats.

Whereas, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stood third with 43 seats.

The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), an alliance of multiple religio-political parties, could muster only 12 seats, whereas the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) managed just six seats.

The PML-Q won four seats while the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) also bagged four seats. The Sindh-based Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) could get mere two seats.

The Balochistan National Party (BNP) won three seats in the National Assembly while the Awami National Party got just one.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaniyat and Jamhoori Wattan Party (JWP) clinched one NA seat each. Besides, a dozen independent candidates also won their seats.

The elections on two seats in a 272-house have been withheld and are likely to take place along with by-elections on seats to be vacated by political leaders who have won more than one seats.

– PML-N emerges as largest party in Punjab – 

In Punjab, the PML-N emerged as the largest party by winning 129 of the 295 provincial assembly seats but it fell short of majority to comfortably form its provincial government.

Whereas, the PTI has won 123 seats, trailing closely behind the formerly governing party.

Both the parties have stepped up efforts to woo independent candidates and MPs-elect of other parties to form the provincial government.

The PML-Q stood third with sevens seats while the PPP has won six in a 295-house.

– PPP sweeps Sindh – 

The PPP has won a simple majority in Sindh Assembly to form the provincial government on its own as it bagged 76 seats in a 130-seats house.

In one of the biggest upsets, the PTI dethroned the MQM-P in the provincial capital Karachi by winning 23 seats while the latter could bag 16 seats.

The GDA won only 11 seats in the provincial assembly.

Khadim Rizvi’s Tehreek-iLabbaik Pakistan (TLP), a new entrant to the electoral battlefield,  clinched two seats in the assembly while the MMA won only one seat.

– PTI dominates KP’s political field – 

The PTI dominated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s political landscape by winning 66 constituencies of a total of 97 where the elections were held.

The MMA bagged 10 seats while the ANP’s could win mere six seats. The PPP won four seats while six independents also secured a position in the provincial assembly.

– BAP leads the race with 15 seats in Balochistan –

The recently formed BAP emerged the largest party in Balochistan by securing 15 seats while the MMA stood second with nine seats.

The BNP, BNP-Awami, Hazara Democratic Party (HDP) mustered six, three and two seats, respectively while the PTI could secure mere four.

The Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) won a single seat and the PML-N could grab only one.

The JWP of Shahzain Bugti won a single seat while five independents also emerged victorious in the province.
