ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued the victory notification of Imran Khan’s NA 131-Lahore that was earlier withheld due to pending dispute in the court.

According to the ECP, the notification was issued in the light of Supreme Court orders.

On August 4, the Lahore High Court had ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to withhold Imran Khan’s victory notification from Lahore’s NA-131 constituency.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, who lost election to the PTI chief with a small margin, had approached the court arguing that ECP only counted rejected votes over his recount plea.

During the hearing of a petition filed by Rafique, the court not only ordered the ECP to withhold the PTI chief’s victory notification but also ordered a complete vote-recount in the constituency.

According to results, the PTI chief had bagged 84, 313 votes, defeating the former railway minister with a narrow margin of 650 votes as the latter could secure 83,633 votes.

NA-131 was one of the hotly contested seats of the National Assembly in July 25 elections, because of the two political heavyweights.
