BAHAWALPUR: PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s motorcade was briefly stopped from heading towards the shrine of Hazrat Jalaluddin Bukhari at Uch Sharif.

According to details, the PPP chairperson reached Uch Sharif to pay his respects at the shrine of the Sufi saint, but he was stopped from entering the shrine by police over non-clearance of the security.

He waited in his car for about 20 minutes before he was allowed to go. Police said the security clearance for the motorcade was not given.

After being allowed to enter the shrine located in a congested area, Bilawal laid a Chaddar and offered prayer. Afterwards, he headed towards the venue of the public meeting.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan took notice of the police stopping Bilawal’s cavalcade from entering the shrine.

ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob sought a report from the Punjab chief secretary and the inspector general of police. He said all parties should be provided equal opportunities to run the election campaign.

Later, addressing the rally, Bilawal said PPP will battle poverty, hunger and social injustice if it comes to power in the 2018 general elections.

The PPP chairperson maintained that unlike other parties, his party doesn’t consider a person or party as its opponent but social injustice, hunger and poverty.

About the PPP’s five year tenure (2008-2013), he said that his father Asif Ali Zardari strengthened federation, introduced constitutional reforms and gave provincial autonomy.
