ISLAMABAD:  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday announced schedule for by-election in NA-120, which fell vacant following the disqualification of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panamagate case, ARY News reported.

According to the notification issued by ECP, polling for the by-election in NA-120 will be held on Sept 17. The candidates are required to submit their nomination papers between August 10-12 while the commission will conduct scrutiny of their nomination papers between August 15-17.

The Supreme Court judgment dated July 28 disqualified Nawaz Sharif from the office of prime minister for not disclosing his un-drawn salary from a UAE firm. Following the judgment, ECP issued a notification de-notifying Sharif as member of the assembly from Lahore’s NA-120.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has decided to get Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif elected from this constituency to  lead the party’s government at the center. Whereas, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to field Dr Yasmin Rashid to run for the NA seat.A day earlier, the PTI candidate accused her opponent of pre-poll rigging by announcing development projects in the constituency and said she would lodge a complaint with the ECP against him.
