Three FATA senators join PTI ahead of presidential elections

ISLAMABAD: Three senators from the erstwhile Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on Saturday announced to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ahead of the presidential elections.

Senator Aurangzeb Khan, Senator Haji Fida and Senator Sajjad Toru called on Prime Minister Imran Khan at his residence in Banigala and announced to join the PTI.

Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak was also present at the occasion. The senators expressed confidence in the leadership of premier Imran Khan who welcomed them to the party.

In a separate meeting, another senator from FATA Mirza Muhammad Afridi called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and also joined the party.

It may be mentioned that the PTI has nominated Arif Alvi as its candidate for the post of the President of Pakistan. The election will be held on September 4 and a joint session of parliament has been summoned in this regard.

PM Imran Khan on Saturday held a party meeting where they discussed a range of issues including the presidential elections. The party is confident that it has the numbers and will not face any hurdles in securing the win for its candidates.

Meanwhile, the opposition has not yet announced their candidate but a consensus was reached to field a joint candidate and an announcement is likely to be made tomorrow.
