Fire erupts in multi-storey building in Karachi

KARACHI: A fire erupted on the fourth floor of a multi-storey building, Techno City, located at I.I. Chandrigarh road in Karachi early Monday morning.

According to fire officials, a snorkel and half a dozen fire tenders took part in the fire fighting operation to douse the fire in the building at one of the busiest streets of the city.

After more than five hours of efforts, the fire was put out.

Fire tenders of Pakistan Navy also helped the fire fighters to extinguish the fire, the Pak Navy’s spokesperson said in a statement.

A short circuit was believed to be the cause of the fire. No casualties were reported.

A fire official said the fire department’s command and control received a call about a fire at around 5:30 am.

Meanwhile, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) expressed concern over delay on the part of the fire fighters to douse the fire at the building and called upon the provincial government to work out a strategy to prevent such incidents in future.
