Four suspected militants shot dead in Karachi shootout

KARACHI: Four suspected militants, linked with the banned Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), were killed in an alleged encounter with police on Saturday night here.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar said a targeted raid was carried out at a house in Taiser Town off Northern Bypass  after receiving an intelligence tip-off provided about presence of the militants in the area. On seeing police, the militants opened fire on the raiding team and when the police personnel returned fire, all four suspects were killed, claimed top police cop.

He said the militants were associated with proscribed terror outfit AQIS and one of slain terrorists hailed from Myanmar. Adding that they were involved in targeted killings of police personnel and were planning terrorist attacks in the city.

On Sept 28, five suspected terrorists were killed in an encounter with police during a raid at a hideout of suspects in Sachal area of the metropolis.

It was the joint raid conducted by police and intelligence officials on an tip-off about presence of the terrorists in the area. All five terror suspects were killed in the retaliatory firing after they opened fire on the personnel.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar then claimed the terrorists were affiliated with global terror outfits Al Qaeda and ISIS.
