A blurry photo of what appears to be a little girl walking in the woods near the town of Cambridge, New York has the whole town talking about the spirit world.
And now locals are wondering: Is the youngster a present-day person or a ghost from the past?
The snapshot, captured by a trail camera placed on a recently-purchased piece of land, is drawing mixed opinions from the locals.
“I think it’s a ghost,” one Cambridge resident told WTEN-TV. “There’s some creepy stuff in this town,” said resident Andrew Banas.
The camera was set up by new landowners who want to hunt in the area to make sure that people were not crossing the land and would be in danger, Cambridge Police Chief George Bell said.
Bell said that he believes that the image is real and doubts that there is any merit to talk about the supernatural. “I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never heard of a ghost running around the woods,” he said.
He said that the landowners, who saw the image several weeks ago, have become more and more anxious to identify the girl and contact her family.
The Cambridge Police Department says they they’ve received calls and emails about the photo and are still trying to identify the girl.
Greenwich Paranormal Research Team President Tania Woodward said wants to look at the actual footage from the actual camera it came from. “There are a lot of historical places and we do pick up a lot of stuff from that.”
Woodward says the image doesn’t provide a lot of information for her to read, and that trail cameras don’t take the best pictures. The owner of the property at this time wants to remain private.
She wants permission to visit the property with her team to determine if there is any possible paranormal activity, or if a real child has been captured by the trail camera.
She said that paranormal activity is common due to the history of the area. “We’ve experienced a lot. We’ve been to a lot of places.”
Police said that they have received countless calls and emails about the photo. Several suggest that as legend has it, a little girl was hit and killed on the train tracks that used to run through the area.
Woodward says she believes there is so much interest because a lot of people have had experiences and now are finally coming out because of all the TV shows everyone sees.
Bell said that they have received other calls about the photo, but there are no solid leads and that anyone with information about the girl should contact the Police department.
