Govt prepares 300-day development plan for Karachi

KARACHI: Federal government has prepared 300 days development plan for Karachi, comprises of the schemes to solve transport, water and municipal problems of the city, sources said.

Under the plan local trains will be operationalized in Karachi and a train will run from Landhi, Malir, Bin Qasim and Dhabeji stations after each 30 minutes, sources said.

The railways freight service will also become a part of the mega scheme. Cargo will be transported to the upcountry stations from Karachi under the Dhabeji freight project, sources further said.

Freight trains will carry cargoes from the East and West Wharf of Karachi Port.

A project to make the Northern Bypass of Karachi a double track highway is also a part of the development plan apart of a scheme to supply additional 350 MGD water to the city.

Sewerage problems and garbage disposal issues of the city will also be addressed through various projects of the plan, sources further said.

According to sources, the Terms of Reference of the federal government’s Karachi Task Force have also been prepared and a government notification to this effect will be issued after the prime minister’s return from China.

The Task Force will comprises of the Governor of Sindh, federal ministers, city mayor, PTI assembly members, architects and industrialists from the city, sources said.

The Karachi Task Force will review the Master Plan.
