Govt to monitor seminaries, academic institutions, apex committee decides

KARACHI: The Sindh Apex Committee on Monday decided to monitor the seminaries as well as the government education institutions on three aspects including the source of funding, curriculum and the overseas students.

A meeting of the apex committee held on Monday (today) with Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah in chair.

Corps Commander Karachi, Director General Rangers, I.G. Police Sindh, provincial ministers Nasir Shah, Murtaza Wahab, Advocate General Sindh and other top officials attended the meeting.

Home Secretary of Sindh, Kabeer Qazi briefed the meeting that a working group for registration of seminaries and the institutions has been constituted.

The meeting was told in briefing that the students of major educational institutions were also remain involved in terrorism incidents.

The apex committee was informed that the draft law for registration of the seminaries has been prepared and will be reviewed by the provincial law department.

It was also recommended in the briefing that the seminaries at key thoroughfares should be transferred to some other place.

The meeting decided to initiate the Safe City Project as a pilot project initially.The chief minister talking in the meeting said that in the safe city system only cameras not important but the prompt response is more important. Now, we have to get rid of the ghost of street crime and all law enforcement agencies should work in coordination for it. The agencies should work for better investigation and prosecution, the chief minister added.

Corps Commander Karachi said the city should have its own cyber security system. The Army Chief will be requested for the help from the Army’s cyber security wing, the Corps Commander further said.

The apex committee also decided for starting training of the new prosecutors.

Earlier, the meeting reviewed implementation of the decisions taken in the previous session of the apex committee

The meeting was also given briefing over the security situation, the action plan and the matters related to prosecution.

Chief Minister Shah regretted three terrorist incidents in Karachi including the attack on Chinese Consulate and bomb blasts in Landhi and Gulistan-e-Johar.

Murad Ali Shah urged everyone for giving special attention to security

The meeting also approved the minutes of the 22nd meeting of the apex committee.
