Hafeez Shaikh directs FBR to simplify tax scheme for people

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance, Hafeez Shaikh, on Tuesday directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to seek advice from experts of different sectors and simplify the tax scheme for people, ARY News reported.

Chairing a meeting regarding tax amnesty scheme, Shaikh said tax scheme should be made convenient for the masses. “We want the maximum number of people to avail the scheme.”

The meeting also reviewed suggestions mooted by the members to make tax scheme a successful one.

The finance adviser said the prime minister had already given directions to remove unnecessary complications from the scheme.

Hafeez Shaikh on Sunday had also reviewed Tax Amnesty Scheme 2019. He was presiding over a meeting with officials of the Federal Board of Revenue in Islamabad.

A notification of the meeting said the meeting mulled over mechanism and limits of the tax amnesty scheme. “Tax scheme should be made easy and feasible,” said the adviser to PM on finance.

On April 20, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh held a phone discussion with Ernesto Ramirez-Rigo, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief to Pakistan, and discussed the progress of negotiations for an IMF-supported programme for Pakistan.

Both sides expressed their commitment for moving the discussions forward. It was agreed that an IMF mission will visit Pakistan by the end of April 2019.
