LAHORE: Hamza Shehbaz, the son of former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Ayesha Ahad, who claims to be his wife, reached an agreement on Monday after the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) arbitrated between the two.

Headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar a bench of the apex court was hearing a case pertaining to the alleged maltreating of Ms Ahad at the hands of the PML-N leader.

Hamza and his alleged wife appeared before the bench in response to its notice.

During the hearing, the chief justice said he wanted to arbitrate between them and warned that if they won’t settle the dispute amicably, a joint investigation team (JIT) comprising representatives of security agencies, including ISI, will be constituted for a probe.

Since they both hailed from Punjab’s influential families, the JIT will comprise those officers who could bring to the light actual facts and then the court will have its final say, he added.

Hamza told the judges that he had not married Ms Ahad who he said has been lying for the past eight years. A case in this regard remained pending in a family court where she couldn’t prove the relationship, he added.

At this, Ms Ahad said she and Hamza tied the knot in 2010 and that she has evidence to back her claim up.

The CJP summoned them into his chamber and after an hour-long discussion, they both reached an agreement according to which they are required to withdraw cases they had instituted against each other and avoid issuing comments against each other on media.

The court further restrained them from revealing the conditions of the agreement reached between them.
