No housing scheme to be built on agricultural land, orders PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered to stop construction of housing schemes on agriculture department’s land across all major cities of Punjab, ARY News reported Friday.

The decision was taken by the prime minister during a key meeting of Punjab Cabinet today.

He directed officials concerned to not approve any housing project on a land owned by the agriculture department.

PM Khan said high-rises will be constructed instead of expanded projects on the land. The meeting described the rationale of the decision as minimizing the use of land.

Earlier in February, Prime Minister Imran Khan had stated the agricultural development was the top most priority of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Chairing a high-level meeting, PM Imran had also sought proposals from the provinces about reforms in agriculture sector and asked to submit their suggestions and recommendations within a week.

The prime mister said that Pakistan would take benefit from Chinese expertise in agriculture sector. He asked the provinces to pin point the hurdles in the progress of agriculture sector and asked how could we increase usage of technology in agriculture field to boost productivity.

PM Imran Khan assured the provinces every possible support in boosting of agriculture sector.
