Hussain, Hassan Nawaz will not attend Kulsoom’s funeral: sources

KARACHI: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s two sons, Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, will not come to attend burial ceremony of their mother in Pakistan, ARY News reported.

Despite the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s offer to provide every possible facility to the family of Kulsoom Nawaz, they have decided not to attend the burial ceremony, this was revealed by sources within the Sharif family.

It should be noted that the Sharif family did not attend funeral and burial ceremony of Mian Sharif, father of Nawaz Sharif, in 2004 during their exile to Saudi Arabia.

In October 2017, an accountability court had declared Hussain and Hassan absconders over their perpetual absence from proceedings in offshore assets case.

A National Accountability Bureau prosecutor had asked the court to initiate proceedings to declare the absconding accused proclaimed offenders and order attachment of their properties.

The prosecutor said Hussain and Hassan had failed to appear before the court despite issuance of non-bailable warrants for their arrest.

It should be noted that Kulsoom Nawaz breathed her last at a hospital in London after a prolonged illness. The political career of the former first lady remains far from any controversy, unlike embroilment of her family members in different cases.

Born into a Kashmiri family in Lahore, she attended Islamia College and Foreman Christian College University for her graduation. Kulsoom was married to Nawaz Sharif, with whom she has four children. Kulsoom Nawaz served as the President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) from 1999 to 2002.

Kulsoom became first lady of Pakistan for the first time after her husband, Nawaz Sharif, became prime minister of Pakistan on 1 November 1990 when his political alliance, Islami Jamhoori Ittehad, won 104 of 207 seats contested in the general election of 1990.
