KARACHI: The local residents on Friday handed over an alleged rape suspect of a minor girl in Ibrahim Hyderi area of the city to the law enforcement agencies, ARY News reported.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar, the school doorman was nabbed by local residents of area after 3-year-old minor girl informed about the incident to her parents.
The parents informed police that their child was suffering from fever as she returned home from the school. The enraged residents stormed the school and vandalised hallways in protest against the gatekeeper’s alleged action.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the issue and ordered a probe into the incident.
The authorities are expected to conduct medical tests of minor child and the alleged rape suspect.
Earlier this week, seven-year-old Zainab was kidnapped, raped, murdered and dumped near garbage heap in Kasur. The incident sparked widespread protests in the country, demanding justice for the victim.
The girl’s rape and murder sparked widespread outrage as the people from all social strata deplored the incident as horrific, demanding #JusticeForZainab.
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while chairing a meeting, announced a Rs 10 million reward for those who would help identify the killer of Zainab.
The protests turned violent on Wednesday when police personnel opened fire on hundreds of protesters, outside DC Office, killing two people.
