Ijaz Shah takes helm of Interior Ministry

ISLAMABAD: Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Ahmed Shah, who was appointed as the interior minister after a major cabinet reshuffle yesterday, took helm of the ministry on Friday.

As per details, Shah reached the Ministry of Interior office today and took charge of his post.

Previously, the portfolio of an interior minister was held by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Shah, an MNA from Nankana Sahib, was appointed as federal minister for parliamentary affairs last month .

Shah was an aide of former president Pervez Musharraf and served as director general of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) from 2004 to 2008.

Federal cabinet on Thursday saw a major reshuffle with the resignation of Asad Umar as finance minister and appointment of noted economist Hafeez Shaikh as Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance.

Minister of State for Interior Shaheryar Afridi has been made Minister of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON).

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry was given the Science and Technology portfolio which had been without a minister since December last year after Azam Khan Swati’s resignation.

Ms Firdous Aashiq Awan is set to replace Fawad Chaudhry but as a Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting as she is not a parliamentarian.
