ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday shared a Quranic verse from Surah Al-Baqarah for the people who spread fake news.

In the age where fake news has become extremely rampant across the global, PM Khan tweeted the message of Quran from Surah Al-Baqarah [2: 42] which says “And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth.)”

In an attempt to curb the spread of fake news, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched a crackdown on social media users propagating false information.

According to FIA officials, the action will be taken against people using fake accounts to spread false information. They said complaints were also received regarding hacking of accounts of government officials.

The freedom of expression will not be targeted, but no one will be allowed to blackmail anyone under this pretext, the official added.
