‘Significant increase’ seen in PR revenue in new minister’s first 50 days

LAHORE: The Pakistan Railways (PR) is said to have witnessed a significant increase in its revenue in the first 50 days of Sheikh Rashid Ahmad’s stint as Federal Minister for Railways. 

A PR spokesperson said the railways yielded Rs1 billion more revenue as compared to the previous fiscal year.

He said the railways’ strength to earn more revenue has significantly enhanced in the 50 days of the new minister.

He said the federal minister has been making efforts to further increase its revenue.

A day earlier, Mr Rashid inaugurated two new trains, including the Mohenjo-Daro Express train and Rohi Express.

Speaking on the occasion, he laid emphasis on the need to improve the PR infrastructure.He said that every Divisional Superintendent will be responsible for the safety of track in the division under his jurisdiction and punitive action shall be taken against officers who are not performing their duties.

Presiding over a meeting with officers of the PR at DS office Sukkur, the minister said, all reservation offices across the country would remain open till midnight and provision of clean drinking water will be made available for passengers adding that tenders for water filtration plants as well as work on escalators at railway stations would be completed by next month.
