Court to indict Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in Rental Power case on April 29

ISLAMABAD: An accountability court of Islamabad on Monday decided to indict former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and other accused in the Rental Power Project scam on APRIL 29.

AC Judge Arshad Malik heard the case in Islamabad, here today.

Former premier Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Abdul Majid and Shahid Rafi skipped today’s court appearance, while other accused named in the case appeared before it.

The court showed resentment over non appearance of the accused in the case and later adjourned the hearing until April 29.

Ashraf and other accused were directed by the court to appear before it on the aforesaid date for the indictment in the reference.

The RPP case pertains to private power companies that faced allegations of having received more than Rs22 billion mobilisation advance from the government to commission the projects but failed to set up any plants.

Ashraf, a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) politician who served as premier between June 22, 2012 and March 25, 2013, is accused of misusing his authority to get approval from the cabinet Economic Coordination Committee for an increase in the down payment to the rental power companies from 7 to 14 per cent to overcome the power crisis from the country.
