KARACHI: Former cricketer Javed Miandad on Tuesday clarified that his recent remarks regarding horsetrading in politics weren’t directed at his old friend Imran Khan or his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), ARY News reported.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, the legendary batsman said that a section of media misquoted him by saying that his remarks and anger over horsetrading after the July 25 elections were directed at the winning party led by his friend Imran Khan’s party PTI.
“My statement was aimed at other, older parties who are involved in horsetrading against PTI, the majority party. Those who are in majority never opt for such measures,” said Miandad.
The former cricketer also said that he trusts Imran Khan who “with his struggle brought change in the country”.
“In fact, I and my family voted for PTI and Imran Khan,” said the legendary cricketer.
Miandad, who also served as Pakistan cricket team’s coach in the past, was a part of the 1992 World Cup winning team led by Imran Khan and has years of friendship with the PTI chief.
The former cricketer had shared a video on his page on Monday in which he criticised some MNA or MPA-elects for “selling themselves” to bigger parties.
Though Miandad named none, a section of media portrayed his comments as directed at PTI and its member Jahangir Tareen, who is on a country wide mission to garner support for Imran Khan’s premiership.
