JICA delegation discusses education reforms with education minister Shafqat Mehmood

Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Mr Shafqat Mehmood was called on by a delegation of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Pakistan, here in Islamabad on Wednesday, ARY News reported.

The delegation was led by Vice President of JICA Dr Toda Takao and consisted of several Japanese experts in the development sector.

The minister at this occasion said Pakistan and Japan had durable relations which stood the test of the time. He lauded JICA’s role in uplifting the education sector of Pakistan, saying that it was ‘highly commendable’.

Mr Mehmood also outlined challenges that Pakistan education system faced:

“Enhancing the literacy rate and the number of school-going children is our main priority”, he said.

He said that the government was working relentlessly as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to bring reforms in the country’s education system.

Dr Takao said that JICA was currently working on the assessment of all the education projects of JICA in Pakistan and was working to make them more effective.

He said that JICA would assist the Ministry of Federal Education in all its initiatives and would share its international experiences in the field of Literacy.
