Police round up 17 suspects in overnight Karachi raids

KARACHI: Police arrested 17 suspects in overnight raids in different parts of the metropolis in a crackdown against criminals, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

According to Superintendent Police (SP) Orangi Town Abid Baloch, a close aide of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi Karachi chief detained in a door-to-door search operation in Orangi Town area of the city. The suspect has been identified as Qari Abdul Salam.

Meanwhile, police arrested as many as 14 suspects in separate raids in different parts of the city. The detained suspects are being interrogated with regard to their involvement in target killing of a worker of Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP), police said.

Separately, Gulberg police arrested two street criminals and recovered weapon and a stolen motorcycle from their possession.

In a separate incident, two people were injured in a firing incident in Kuwari Colony area of the city for resisting a robbery bid, police sources said, adding the locals caught the suspect and thrashed him thoroughly before police could take him into custody. Police recovered a weapon from the arrested accused.

One of the wounded was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital while the other has been moved to a private hospital on Stadium Road in the outskirts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The identities of the injured could not be ascertained.
