Five terrorists killed in encounter with police: Rao Anwar

KARACHI: Five suspected terrorists were killed in an encounter with police on Thursday during a raid at the hideout of suspects in Sachal area of the metropolis, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Malir Rao Anwar  told media.

According to SSP Rao Anwar, police and intelligence officials conducted the raid on an intelligence tip-off about presence of the terrorists in the area.

“All five of the terrorists were killed in retaliatory firing after they opened fire on the raiding team,” SSP Malir said.

The slain terrorists were planning a terrorist attack during Ashura, the senior cop added.

The terrorists killed were affiliated with global terror outfit Al Qaeda and ISIS, claimed Anwar.

“They were under our surveillance for past few days, but had to conduct the operation on an emergency basis they could have moved soon,” he further said.

Police also claimed to seize huge cache of arms and ammunition from the hideout of terrorists, besides recovering explosives and six rocket grenades.

Sharing details of the terrorists with media, the police said one of them was an electronic expert and had made several IEDs, used in various attacks.

However, no further details were shared with regard to identification of the slain terrorists.
