LAHORE: Spokesperson Punjab Government on Wednesday said 13,000 lady health workers (LHWs) would be appointed in the next four years across the province, ARY News reported.

In a statement, the spokesperson said Punjab Health Minister Yasmeen Rashid had listened to the demands of the protesting lady health workers. “The PML-N government had ceased appointments in the department, and it was at the brink of closure… however, the incumbent government announced to recruit more people.”

He said 4,000 lady health workers died until 2012 during service and they were not given dues by the then government.

“The government of PTI accepted the LHWs demand and agreed to pay their dues amounting to Rs 480 million,” the spokesperson added.

He requested the LHWs to not politicise the protest.

The spokesperson urged the lady health workers to end their sit-in as all their demands had been accepted by the government of Punjab.

Yasmeen Rashid said that the health department had already completed its working on promotion of lady health on seniority basis. She said that in such circumstances, call of lady health supervisors and lady health workers for the protest and sit-in was not less than the blackmailing.

She lauded the services of lady health workers for family planning in rural area and added that health department would soon announce good news about their promotion.

The minister said that recruitment process of lady health workers would be formally started from this year throughout Punjab.
