Lahore High Court hears plea seeking security of ground water

LAHORE: A bench of Lahore High Court while hearing a petition about securing underground water in the country, on Wednesday ordered to submit the related report of the World Bank in the court.

Justice Jawad Hassan of the high court heard a petition seeking the court orders to secure the underground water in Pakistan.

The bench also issued orders for submission of the record of the Supreme Court decisions on the water issues.

Justice Jawad Hassan called the matter as the survival of the country and its coming generations.

The court was informed that according to a World Bank report Pakistan loses the water of around estimated value of 12 billion dollars’ every year.

The court instead of constituting a water commission will review the implementation of the apex court’s orders, the bench remarked

This World Bank report is in the interest of the country and it should be brought to the court’s record, the bench ordered.

The report included recommendations to secure the precious water and improve the related administrative matters in the country, the petitioner said.

The petition sought the court order for security of water and steps to supply clean water to the citizens.

The court adjourned hearing of the case till February 08.
