ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Barrister Dr Muhammad Farogh Naseem met with Chairman of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Usman Yousaf Mobin to discuss draft legislation for the issuance of Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates by the Nadra through biometric and other modern devices.

Other high officials of the Nadra were also present on this occasion. Both the sides reached consensus on draft legislation.

The law minister said that upon the death of an individual, the legal heirs had to languish in courts for years before they were able to obtain Letters of Administration (for immovable property) and Succession Certificates (for movable property).

This has resulted in a lot of undue burden on the courts as the courts are required to issue both. With the issuance of Letters of Administration and Succession Certificates by the Nadra, not only excessive burden on courts will be reduced but fraud and forgery could also be prevented.

The Nadra chairman further observed that in any event the courts required Nadra Family Tree before grant of Letter of Administration and Succession Certificate.

Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Maleeka Bukhari said the new legislation would help the female heirs as their right to inherit would also be protected. The Nadra officials agreed that work on the legislation would be helpful for the legal heirs of the deceased and they would work to expedite the process.
