LAHORE: Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC), Muhammad Anwaarul Haq, has ordered hearing of cases filed by special persons on priority basis, ARY News reported on Thursday.

The notification in this regard has been issued by the LHC registrar and it’s been sent to judges of district and sessions’ courts.

The court also ordered that all special persons be given facilities as stated under The Disabled Persons (Employment and Rehabilitation) Ordinance, 1981.

It also ordered that no disabled person should be subjected to harsh treatment or an impolite behaviour by any official.

The notification further said immediate decision should be taken on cases filed by disabled persons in the court.

In its ruling in January this year, the LHC had banned use of words like blind, mute, deaf and lame to describe differently-abled persons in official matters and directed the government to make necessary changes in the Disabled Persons (Employment and Rehabilitation) Ordinance of 1981.

In the ruling, LHC Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah also directed that disabled persons must now be referred to as “special persons”.
