KARACHI: Sindh Government on Monday reinstated Superintendent Malir Jail, Hassan Sahito, who was suspended on the orders of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) over providing C-class facilities to death row convict, Shahrukh Jatoi in murder case of Shahzeb Khan.

ARY NEWS has acquired the notification issued by Sindh home minister about reinstatement of the superintendent Malir Jail.

On October 27, the top judge visited different barracks of the Malir Jail and expressed resentment after seeing Shahrukh Jatoi being provided ‘C’ class facilities instead of being kept in a death cell.

Jatoi and his friend Siraj Talpur were awarded capital punishment, while his younger brother Sajjad Talpur and their cook Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were awarded life in prison by an anti-terrorism court in Shahzeb Khan murder case.

Twenty-year-old Shahzeb Khan, son of a DSP, was gunned down on the night of December 24, 2012 in Karachi’s Defence Housing Society (DHA).

The incident had sparked widespread outrage across the country and attracted much media attention, prompting the then Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice of the murder.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court set aside the Sindh High Court (SHC) November 28 verdict that paved the way for the release of Shahrukh Jatoi and others on bail.

A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, gave this verdict.

The court ordered the police to immediately arrest all the suspects. It also directed the authorities to place their names on the Exit Control List (ECL).

On November 28, a SHC appellate bench overturned the sentences awarded to the suspects and sent the case to sessions court for retrial.
