ALGIERS: A man has reportedly been jailed for two years after he dangled a baby out of a window in a bid to get ‘likes’ on Facebook in Algeria.

The man, who has not been named, posted a picture of himself holding the baby from a high-rise building – gripping on to just the child’s clothing.

The image was captioned: ‘1,000 likes or I will drop him’.

Following the posting, a number of social media users contacted the police, demanding he was arrested for child abuse.

Police later arrested the man in Algeria, and charged him with endangering the baby’s safety. According to Al Arabiya, the baby was dangled 15 floors above the ground.

The unnamed man denied that he put the baby at risk, claiming that social media users had altered the photograph.

He said: ‘The picture was taken in a balcony with protective barriers. These were removed.’ The child’s father also pleaded with the courts, insisting the man had ‘just been playing a game’.

However a judge stated that the image was clear – and he had put the child in danger.
