Medical board examines Nawaz at Adiala
ISLAMABAD: A medical board arrived at Adiala jail on Monday to examine former prime minister Nawaz Sharif who is serving sentence awarded to him in the Avenfield properties case. It also brought a mobile-laboratory for his check-up.
Dr Aijaz Qadeer heads the medical board which also comprises of Dr Naeem Malik, Dr Shajee Siddiqui, Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood. It includes a cardiologist, gastroenterologist and other medical specialists.
The former premier was moved from his cell to the medical facility at the prison for the check-up.
The board was assembled on the directives of the Ministry of Interior after the three-time premier complained of kidney-related pain and high-blood pressure, according to the jail authorities.
It recommended various clinical tests of Nawaz to determine whether he needed to be shifted to a hospital or not.
It merits mention here that PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif had earlier written a letter to caretaker Prime Minister retired Justice Nasirul Mulk, complaining that there was no air conditioner in his elder brother’s cell nor were there proper medical facilities.
He said his brother has a history of diabetes and heart ailment and therefore needed timely medical attention and medicines.
He demanded that the ex-PM’s doctor should be permitted to visit him twice a day to examine his health.
